INT. THE THREE HOUSES — MAGHRIB

Some venues ask for spectacle. This one asks for restraint.

The Abrahamic Family House holds a mosque, a church and a synagogue on one site in Abu Dhabi. Every operational decision inside it carries meaning that has nothing to do with events — which is exactly why the events have to be faultless and quiet.

Abrahamic Family House architecture at dusk in Abu Dhabi
Three houses of worship on one site — where the correct operational instinct is usually to do less, more precisely.

Context

Most event environments reward visible production. This one inverts it. The site serves three faith communities with different calendars and different customs around timing, sound, imagery and access, alongside a shared public role as a national symbol of coexistence. An event here is judged by whether it respected the building — not by whether it impressed anyone.

My responsibility

I managed national and cultural programming across the venue’s events calendar, working to government protocol and culturally sensitive operating standards. The role covered stakeholder, venue, production and guest-experience coordination across recurring calendar requirements and seasonal activations, in an environment where discretion was an operational requirement rather than a preference.

The delivery system

  • Built delivery plans around three faith calendars simultaneously, so no activity in one space compromised another.
  • Applied government protocol standards to guest handling, sequencing and communication.
  • Kept the production footprint deliberately minimal — specifying restraint into supplier briefs rather than editing it back later.
  • Managed recurring calendar requirements as a repeatable operating rhythm instead of treating each as a new project.
  • Maintained discreet logistics appropriate to a sensitive interfaith environment, including load-in timing and crew conduct standards.

Results

  • Events delivered across the venue calendar throughout the engagement
  • Government protocol and cultural sensitivity standards maintained
  • Recurring programme rhythm established for calendar and seasonal activations

Lesson retained

The hardest operational discipline is not adding capability. It is knowing which capability the room does not want.
